The Kellermann chain tool allows easy disassembly of the old and precise assembly of the new chain (with rivet lock) without having to remove the rear swing arm. With this tool, chains of all common brands (e.g. D.I.D, Regina, RK etc.) can be separated and riveted with hollow rivet locks. Only a 19 ring or socket wrench is required for use. The chain tool consists of the main force-transmitting tool and a patented positioning unit for the assembly of the rivet lock, which features a completely new and simple sliding option for the side plate of the chain lock. This newly developed magnetic positioning unit ensures a simple and absolutely precise assembly of the side plate of the chain lock. The magnets in the pressure plate as well as in the counter plate hold the two parts of the chain lock and enable a precise, simple and comfortable alignment of the chain lock parts to each other due to the guide. This is crucial for damage-free installation of the chain lock and can be checked at any time through the recesses in the printing plate. The magnets also ensure that the positioning unit remains attached to the chain and does not have to be held permanently. With the main tool, the positioning unit can be used to push the side plate onto the chain lock; a step that can be very time-consuming and nerve-wracking without the new positioning unit. The pressure and counter plates are constructed in such a way that they extend over the adjacent chain links, so that when the chain lock is mounted, it is possible to see with the naked eye when the tongue has been pushed wide enough onto the two pins. This largely eliminates the otherwise frequent damage to the chain or chain lock caused by assembly errors.
