Disposal of used batteries
Note on Disposal of Used Batteries
This notice applies to end users who utilize batteries or products equipped with batteries and are not resellers.
1. Free Return of Used Batteries
Batteries shall not be disposed of in household waste. End users are legally required to return used batteries to ensure environmentally sound disposal. Used batteries may be returned at local collection points or retail outlets. As a distributor of batteries, BTS GmbH is obliged to accept used batteries of the types carried in its assortment. Such used batteries may be returned to BTS GmbH by mail (with sufficient postage; exception: acid batteries may not be sent by mail) or delivered directly to the dispatch warehouse at the following address:

2. Meaning of Battery Symbols
Batteries bear the symbol of a crossed-out wheeled bin, indicating that they must not be disposed of with household waste. Batteries containing more than 0.0005% by weight of mercury, more than 0.002% by weight of cadmium, or more than 0.004% by weight of lead shall also indicate the relevant heavy metal as follows: "Cd" for cadmium, "Pb" for lead, and "Hg" for mercury.
3. Vehicle Batteries
The following provisions apply to the sale of vehicle batteries (being batteries intended for the starter motor, lighting, or ignition of vehicles):
In accordance with section 10 BattG, the seller is obliged to charge end users a deposit of EUR 7.50 (inclusive of VAT) per vehicle battery if, at the time of purchase of the new vehicle battery, the end user does not return a used vehicle battery to the seller.
Upon purchase of a vehicle battery, the customer shall receive a deposit voucher. To obtain reimbursement of the deposit, the customer may return the used vehicle battery to the seller. Due to the Hazardous Goods Regulations, shipment of used vehicle batteries to the seller is prohibited. Alternatively, the customer may return the used vehicle battery to a return point established by the public waste management authority.
If the used vehicle battery is not returned to the seller who levied the deposit, any authorized collector taking back the used vehicle battery in accordance with section 11(3) BattG shall, upon request, confirm the return to the end user in writing or electronically without reimbursement of the deposit. In such case, the customer shall be reimbursed the deposit by the seller upon presentation of a written or electronic proof of return pursuant to section 10(1) sentence 4 BattG, provided that such proof is not older than two weeks at the time of presentation.
