Note for the Netherlands and Switzerland:

The legal regulations in the Netherlands and Switzerland provide special safety devices for both braked and unbraked trailers.

According to this, trailers with a permissible weight of 750kg or more must have a “tear-free arrangement” that prevents the trailer from becoming self-employed when it tears itself away from the towing vehicle. The rope must be permanently attached to the trailer and must not be deformed or otherwise excessively damaged

s a. If there is no eyelet on the towbar to attach the breakaway cable, a bracket must be attached. This is attached to the towbar on which the safety rope must be attached.

It is not enough if the safety rope is loosely placed over the towbar.

This regulation also applies to unbraked trailers up to 750kg ZGG. These must be secured to the towing vehicle with a safety chain.
